The Stonegrove estate is a council estate in Edgware, built on the edge of greenbelt land during the 60s and 70s. The estate is made up of medium and low rise blocks containing 603 homes. It is currently being cleared block by block and demolished to make way for new housing.
The current residents are being moved off the estate to make way for ‘ 937 new homes, about a third of which will be for rent, half for sale and the remainder for low-cost home ownership’ (Barnet Council)
One resident told me that the old estate was roughly 80% social rented housing, whereas the new mix will possibly only have about 20%.
